The U.S. Embassy in Belmopan informs U.S. citizens living, traveling or working in Belize that the last four homicides in Belmopan have all occurred in the Roaring Creek village, including three within the last 30 days. This includes a U.S. citizen and his acquaintance who were murdered while swimming near the Hammock Bridge area of Roaring Creek on September 28, 2013.
Two more murders were reported the evening of September 30, 2013, in Camalote Village area, adjacent to Roaring Creek (and separated from Roaring Creek by the Valley of Peace Road at the West Star gas station).
U.S. citizens should exercise caution when visiting or traveling through Roaring Creek, should avoid isolated or dimly lit areas, and should always observe their surroundings when parking, exiting and returning to their vehicles.
