GeoBlue Travel Medical health plans provide routine, urgent and emergent coverage internationally. All plans include medical evacuation and repatriation benefits. Medical Benefits are covered at 100% basis for treatment outside the United States, unless indicated otherwise on the benefit schedule.
The following medical scenarios illustrate how GeoBlue Voyager Choice works overseas versus a traditional U.S. domestic health insurance plan.
Scenerio: Medical Emergency
Location: Turin, Italy
Product: GeoBlue Voyager Choice Single-Trip
Medical Situation: Injuries sustained from fall down flight of stairs
Diagnosis: Femur fracture
Action Taken: 80 year-old GeoBlue member fractured her femur while in her hotel in Turin. After the fall she was rushed immediately to a public non-contracted hospital. The member’s family contacted GeoBlue, who made payment arrangements with the facility so the member would not have any out-of-pocket expenses.
The member underwent emergency surgery. After commencing an inpatient physical therapy regimen, the member regained some mobility. GeoBlue’s medical team spoke daily with the hospital staff to monitor the member’s progress. Due to the member’s slow recovery, she was hospitalized for nearly three weeks. Once she was declared fit to fly, a plan was developed for her return to the U.S.
The member’s husband had his own medical problems which prohibited him from assisting his wife during the flight. As a result, the doctors required the member to travel in first class seating accompanies by a nurse escort. The escort was arranged and the member arrived safely back home.
