02/20/2015 (Saudi Arabia) – Local media on Friday, 20 February reported that the Ministry of Health warned of a possible increase in cases of the Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS) coronavirus in the coming days due to weather changes.
The ministry undersecretary stated that MERS case are being registered daily in various parts of the Kingdom. Since the beginning of 2015, a total of 122 infections were reported compared to 51 during the same period in 2014. A number of protective measures are in place, and leave requests for all doctors and nurses working in specialised MERS clinics for the next three months will be cancelled. Travellers are advised that preventative measures and early detection are considered the best practice solution to minimise contraction, including washing hands with soap and water frequently. Travellers should see a doctor if they develop a fever and symptoms of lower respiratory illness.
