05/04/2015 (France) – Media reports indicate that a labour strike affecting private bus services began on Monday, 4 May, in the Parisian region. Employees of the Keolis-CIF and Fileo private bus companies began an unlimited labour stoppage as part ongoing tensions with the company’s management. The strike resulted in severe disruptions to normal services in the Seine-et-Marne, Val d’Oise and Seine Saint Denis regions. Police forces are also fearful that the strike may lead to small-scale violence: in the past, employees of the bus companies vandalised their vehicles in an attempt to pressure the management.
The strike on the the Keolis-CIF and Fileo bus lines is unlikely to directly affect business operations and travel in Paris. However, the affected lines in northern Paris may force local users to use different transportation means, such as the regional train network (RER). As such, personnel transiting on routes from Paris toward the Charles de Gaulle Airport (CDG) should expect higher than normal usage of the line and crowded stations. Clients in Paris should avoid all labour-related demonstrations to mitigate the risk of exposure to unruly crowd behaviour.
